Texans for Accountable Government want to ensure that the Austin Regional Intelligence Center is the most transparent and accountable Fusion Center in the entire country. We will hold Police Chief Acevedo to his word that; no private data will be collected, the center will only be used to solve crimes and not monitor residents, only predicated information which the agencies already have access to will be contained, and stakeholders will have a seat at the table when creating privacy guidelines.
OPERATION: DE-FUSE – Southern Tour (OperationDefuse.com)
Mission: Empower the public so they may better understand the police/surveillance state by educating them about fusion centers and the role they play in both militarizing and federalizing our police forces.
Vision: A harmonious relationship between law enforcement and the people that promotes peace while respecting liberty.
Methodology: Throughout the year 2010 representatives from TAG and LRP will travel across the United States visiting America’s fusion centers, holding public forums and activist trainings, and meeting with representatives and local law enforcement. This January we will launch the southern leg of the tour visiting the following 9 states; MO, TX, NM, AZ, OK, LA, MI, AL, and GA.
Operation: De-fuse Austin
Austin Regional Intelligence Center
On Thursday the 6th, 2009, the Austin City Council voted 7-0 to authorize the use of Homeland Security grants to turn an existing Department of Public Safety building into the Austin Regional Intelligence Center. This will be the second Fusion Center in the City of Austin. The first one being the Texas Security Analysis and Alert Center.
We’ve already witnessed the absurd broad-brush profiling which emanated from Fusions Centers across the country; producing such documents as the MIAC report, out of Missouri’s Fusion Center, and the “Homegrown Terrorism” Document, out of the Virginia Fusion Center. We do not want to see anything even remotely similar to these atrocious infringements on our civil liberties in the state of Texas and certainly not in the City of Austin. As Texans for Accountable Government we want to ensure that the Austin Regional Intelligence Center is the most transparent and accountable Fusion Center in the entire country. We will hold Police Chief Acevedo to his word that;
– no private data will be collected
– the center will only be used to solve crimes, not monitor residents.
– only predicated information, which the agencies already have access to, will be contained
– stakeholders will have a seat at the table when creating privacy guidelines
