TSA “Anti-Groping” Bills Added to the Special Session

House Bill 41, authored by Rep. David Simpson (co-authored by 112 other Representatives), as well as Senate Bill 29 authored by Sen. Dan Patrick (co-authored by 5 other Senators), has been filed with the Secretary of State and, as of June 20th, ADDED TO THE SPECIAL SESSION!

Last weekend in New Orleans, LA at his book signing, when asked about the TSA legislation in Texas, Perry first said that they didn’t have the votes and when corrected he went on to claim that there wasn’t enough time to get it passed. Watch the news coverage here.

Recognizing Perry’s reluctance to add the bill to the call in spite of overwhelming public support and a storm of phone calls to the governor’s office, Rep. David Simpson wrote an open letter.

The release of this video and the open letter was undoubtably the tipping point. With 112 co-authors in the House and Sen. Dan Patrick’s announcement that he has the votes to pass it in the Senate, the dignity of Texas travelers is going to be protected by the Texas Legislature. And it’s all due to the expolosion on grassroots activism! Thank you all for making phone calls, sending email, and visiting legislators’ offices.

HB 41 will be voted on by the Texas House THIS FRIDAY! This link will continuously be updated, you can check the progress of this bill anytime. Considering the overwhelming support of Texas Representatives, HB 41 is sure to pass…AGAIN.

SB 29 is scheduled for public hearing this Monday at 10am. If you’d like to attend the hearing, email Heather Fazio (512-825-9142/heather.fazio@tagtexas.org) for details about parking and Capitol maps.

ACTION: Please call and email your Texas Senator. Let him/her know that you SUPPORT SB 29 and expect them to vote for it when given the opportunity. Or better yet, ask them to sign on as a co-author of the bill. LET’S FINISH STRONG!
