Fluoride Free Austin continues to press forward and lobbying the Austin City Council to cease adding the fluoride drug, hydrofluorosilicic acid, to our municipal water supply. The latest updates include formally demanding the addition of fluoride health warning information on our water utility bill.
An extensive line up of TAG members, Austin doctors, professionals and business owners, met with Mayor Pro Tem Sheryl Cole and her Aides (Greg Anderson and Mike McGill) to discuss the next steps in ending fluoridation with regard to adding a warning, instituting a moratorium, assigning a commission to show there are no negative health effects from fluoridation, and ending fluoridation in Austin. Overall, progress was made at the meeting. We highlighted the MSDS sheet for Austin’s fluoride source now includes health warnings for overexposure of hydrofluorosilicic acid for babies and children and not just plant workers handling the chemical. This is huge!
Sheryl Cole agreed the recent change in the Mosaic MSDS sheet for hydrofluorosilicic acid that warns of fluorosis if over exposure occurs during enamel formation, was “not good” and she shared that her family and friends in West Texas are having “browning of their teeth and it could be from too much fluoride and it’s concerning.” Her aide, Mike McGill, stated that “they need to meet with legal” on the MSDS sheet warning changes that occurred in May 2011 and that “putting a warning on the bill doesn’t seem hard to do.” We will follow up with 5 presenters at the next Council Meeting on 8/25.
We also shared with Cole and her aides, the fact that there has been a lawsuit filed against the Metropolitan Water District of California for deceptive trade practices because hydrofluorosilicic acid has never been declared a drug by the FDA and is being used to mass medicate the public without their consent. Fluoride Free Austin is monitoring the suit carefully and will report updates to City Council Members as it progresses.
In addition, Fluoride Free Austin is educating our fellow citizens with a Resolution to End Fluoridation which is being circulated for business owners and individuals to sign to show their opposition to fluoridation.
