Fluoride Update: Pivotal Public Hearing at City Hall, October 18th

As Fluoride Free Austin and Texans for Accountable Government continue to pressure the Austin City Council to end their 60 year practice of fluoridation, some excellent progress has been made.  Council Member Mike Martinez, chairman of the Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) Sub-Committee of the Council is holding a public hearing and will accept citizen testimony of on October 18th at 3 pm on why the Austin Utility Department should place a fluoridation health warning on Austin’s water bills.  The warning that has been demanded by Fluoride Free Austin and TAG is as follows:

“In January of 2011 the CDC lowered the maximum level of fluoride allowed in tap water from 1.2 ppm to 0.7 ppm.1 Austin currently fluoridates at 0.7 ppm.2Prolonged or repeated overexposure to fluoride compounds may cause fluorosis.3 Fluorosis is characterized by skeletal changes, consisting of osteosclerosis and osteomalacia and by mottled discoloration of the enamel of teeth if exposure occurs during enamel formation of children and infants.3
If you are concerned about fluorosis in infants in children, you can minimize exposure to fluoride by using non-fluoridated water, for children and for reconstitution of infant formula.2”
If we have a chamber full of supporters, we have a high probability of succeeding at getting the fluoridation warning on our water bills.  Please join us at the Austin City Council on Oct 18th at 2:00 pm to sign up to speak and and voice your opinion. You do not have to address the committee to make a difference…JUST SHOW UP!To get the word out about the PHHS meeting, and Dr. Griffin Cole, DDS and Dr. Laura Pressley, Ph.D. will be appearing on the Infowars Nightly news on Sept 30th at 7pm discussing the negative health effects of fluoridation and how Austin citizens can help. Most recently, College Station, Texas has just voted to end the practice of fluoridation.  We want Austin to be next.  On the legal front, there have been several lawsuits filed recently that challenge the practice of fluoridation.  Learn more at FluorideFreeAustin.com.
